A week after New York’s Metropolitan Opera, in response to sexual harassment allegations against Plácido Domingo, parted company with the singer, Domingo has resigned as general director of the Los Angeles Opera and withdrawn from future performances with the company.
While lauding Domingo’s contributions to the company he had led since 2003, Christopher Koelsch, LA Opera’s president and CEO, said in a statement that “[w]e must take further steps to guarantee we are doing everything we can to foster a professional and collaborative environment,” the Los Angeles Times’ Jessica Gelt reports:
