A song for Juneteenth

Juneteenth, first celebrated on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, TX, when the city’s Black population learned they were freed from slavery, was made a national holiday in 2021. To mark the day, here’s William Grant Still’s Second Symphony (“Song of a New Race”), played by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Neeme Järvi conducting:
